Barcelona winger plan on returning to former club
Barcelona winger looks to returning to former club next summer
When Barcelona pulled off the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer in the summer last year, it was hailed as a major coup.
The Netherlands forward is coming in on the back of a fine season for Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon and had looked good in the Oranje’s short-lived UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. With Lionel Messi departing shortly after, the 28-year-old was tipped to take over the mantle of Barça’s main man.
Things began well for Memphis at Camp Nou, as he put together a run of goalscoring displays early in his stint. However, things went downhill soon for the former Lyon and Manchester United star, as he began to struggle to produce the goods in the final third of the pitch.
Depay picked up a serious injury in December, that has kept him on the sidelines till today. In the meantime, Barcelona have moved forward, signing Adama Traore, Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while B team prospects such as Ez Abde and Ferran Jutgla have gained prominence too.
It has left the Dutch ace in a difficult situation with regard to his future. And a report from Le Quotidien (h/t Fichajes), claims that Depay is seriously considering the possibility of returning to his former club Lyon at the end of the season in order to revive his career.

Three incredible Barça goals vs Valencia
It was with Les Gones that the 28-year-old played some of his finest football, putting behind the struggle-filled days at Manchester United. And, with things hitting a standstill at Barcelona, the forward is hoping to secure a return to Ligue 1 to get things back on track.
The report states that Depay’s camp have been in touch with Lyon to encourage them to make an offer for him. Barça, for their part, could be open to a sale, considering his contract will run out in 2023 and Xavi is hoping to bring in a new striker in the summer.
