Dusan Vlahovic creates an amazing UEFA Champions League record
What a night for Dusan Vlahovic, the serbian stirker who now plays for Juventus had never played a minute in the Champions League at his previous clubs Fiorentina and Partizan Belgrade.
This did not show when he was picked out by a long ball over the top from Danilo just seconds into the match.
Vlahovic controlled the ball on his chest before firing a shot across a helpless Geronimo Rulli in the Villarreal goal.
As well as setting the record for the quickest goal on debut, Vlahovic’s goal was also just 22 seconds slower than the fastest ever goal in Champions League history.
Roy Makaay has held that record since March 2007, when he scored for Bayern Munich just 10 seconds into a 2-1 home win over Real Madrid.
Vlahovic also scored on his Serie A debut for Juventus earlier this month, finding the net against Hellas Verona following his arrival in Turin.
That had been his only goal for his new club before Tuesday night, having recently slipped one goal behind Ciro Immobile in the Serie A scoring charts with 18 in 24 this season.
His form in 2021 was enough to earn a January move as he became just the third player to score 30 or more Serie A goals in a calendar year.
He joined Cristiano Ronaldo and Luca Toni in achieving the feat with his 34 league strikes during 2021.
Welcome to the Champions League, Dušan Vlahović 🙌🤩
